Every premium court depends on what's underneath it. Groundworks and civil engineering rarely get the attention they deserve, largely because once a court is finished, this stage is invisible. But it's the stage that determines whether a court performs for a decade or develops problems within its first year.
What is groundworks & civil engineering for a padel court?
Groundworks is the civil engineering foundation that every padel court is built on. It covers excavation, drainage design and installation, sub-base preparation, surfacing, and the structural base the court frame is fixed to. Get this stage wrong, through poor drainage, inadequate sub-base, or a weak structural foundation, and no amount of quality in the court structure above it can compensate.
This is fundamentally a civil engineering discipline, not a general construction task. It requires an understanding of ground conditions, water management, and structural loading specific to padel court requirements.

Drainage: attenuation and soakaway systems Padel courts generate significant surface water runoff, particularly with porous surfacing. We design and install attenuation and soakaway systems appropriate to the site's ground conditions, managing water effectively rather than leaving it to become a long-term maintenance issue.
Type 1 MOT sub-base A properly compacted Type 1 MOT sub-base provides the stable foundation the court surface and structure depend on, engineered to the loading and drainage requirements of the specific site.
Porous tarmac laying Surfacing is laid to work in tandem with the drainage strategy beneath it, ensuring consistent performance and longevity.
Reinforced concrete ring beam The court frame is fixed onto a reinforced concrete ring beam, engineered to provide the structural stability the entire court structure relies on for its lifetime.
